Care Instructions

We want your jewelry to last - and NOT cost you a fortune. Long-lasting jewelry depends on the base metal and the plating process. That’s why we only carry supplies with electroplating for superior adhesion and increased resistance to wear and corrosion.

Please read the care instructions below for each of the base metals used in the shop:

Aluminum

Used for the vast majority of our chains. Super lightweight, tarnish-resistant, waterproof, hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, and sustainable. Can last for years to come with very little upkeep.

Stainless steel

Used for our thinner chains that need extra durability, like herringbone and cable chains as well as pendants, charms, and connecting parts like O-rings and lobster clasps. Hypoallergenic, 70% harder and much more resistant to tarnishing and scratches than white gold and platinum. With proper care, it can last for years. To prolong the life of your jewelry: avoid harsh chemicals and cleaners, excessive sweat, salt water, and chlorinated pools. Clean with mild soap and water, if necessary. Store away from moisture and sharp objects.

Brass

Used primarily for our paper clip chain, larger lobster clasps, and jump rings. Softer and a less durable metal than stainless steel. With proper care, it can last for years. To prolong the life of your jewelry: avoid harsh chemicals and cleaners, excessive sweat, salt water, and chlorinated pools. Clean with mild soap and water, if necessary. Store away from moisture and sharp objects. NOTE: Though uncommon, some folks are sensitive to brass jewelry.

Zinc-alloy

Used for all of our engraved padlocks. A mixture of compounds that is hard and durable and can be molded into different shapes easily. May contain trace amounts of (non-rod) nickel. Zinc-alloy products require a bit more TLC. Can be exposed to water but wipe dry after exposure. Avoid harsh chemicals and cleaners, excessive sweat, salt water, and chlorinated pools. NOTE: NOT suitable for nickel allergies or highly sensitive skin. Avoid direct contact with skin if you’re sensitive to metals. Avoid direct, prolonged contact with skin if you’re highly active.

FYI: Rose gold plating often contains copper, which depending on the base metal, can oxidize quickly. if your rose gold-colored lock shackle (NOT the face), small jump rings, or thin chains discolor rapidly, you can use Brasso or another brass cleaner to gently polish back to its original luster.

NOTE: The care instructions given are for general purposes only. There is always a risk of an adverse reaction to jewelry. It is metal on our skin, after all, and everyone’s pH is unique. Please be mindful of this when making your purchase.
